International Outreach Award

The International Outreach Award was created in 2012 to recognize professional staff who have made significant contributions to Emory’s internationalization through the programs, schools, and units in which they serve, and who also extend Emory's reputation by contributing their expertise to international professional networks in their respective fields of research, teaching, and higher education.

2018 Recipient: Mark Butt

Mark Butt is the Director of Undergraduate Selection in the Office of Undergraduate Admission at Emory University. In this role, Mark travels and works with schools, students, and college counselors in Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Previously, Mark specialized in India, Southeast Asia, Latin America, and his home country, Canada. During his career, Mark has traveled to over 60 countries and has reviewed over 20,000 freshman admission applications. He has presented at national and international conferences on topics which include ethical practices in admission, recruitment travel, disciplinary action, writing letters of recommendation, financial aid for international students, and school profile assessments. His early career includes five years in undergraduate admission at Johns Hopkins University and two years of advising high school students through the college search and selection process at an independent day school in South Florida. Mark holds a master’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
